WHA at PCBC 2018
We left PCBC feeling inspired, determined, and excited about the future of the home building industry. We noticed trends towards manufactured housing, attainability, affordability, and a dominant focus on modern and contemporary architectural styles.
Two of WHA’s Senior Principals spoke at the conference, Rick Aiken and Ron Nestor. Rick Aiken, Senior Principal of WHA’s Urban Studio discussed how adults can learn from children and apply their inherited traits to our professional lives. His playful use of M&M’s, Star Wars Pez dispensers, and his storytelling captivated the audience and left them wanting more. Ron Nestor, Senior Principal moderated a panel discussion about the recent Ventura and Santa Rosa fires which destroyed thousands of homes leaving hundreds without housing. The panel consisted of David Guhin, Director of Planning for the City of Santa Rosa, Brenda Christopherson, President of Christopherson Properties and Lance Williams, President of Williams Homes. Their fascinating and educational commentary focused on the rehabilitation process, how it can be streamlined in the future, what we can continue to learn from these disasters.
Ending the conference on a high note, Luxaira took home the Grand Award for Best Affordable Community at Thursday night’s Gold Nugget ceremony! These 157 senior apartments in Irvine, CA reflect the early modern architecture of California’s Irving Gill. The development’s bold massing of smooth plaster forms accented by wood trim, grand entrance arches and an abundance of amenities wowed judges and pleased our client, Related California.
