A Country Club for Gearheads
Golf course country clubs have been around for over 100 years. Their sculptured landscapes and romantic vistas provide the setting, not just for the game, but for the surrounding homes, in perfect harmony with relaxed living. This kind of interest-based neighborhood planning seems to be gaining momentum and branching out to a wider range of activities. WHA is at the forefront of these innovations.
There are many other examples of this concept: retirement communities, racquet clubs and even airparks, like the, now defunct, Jumbolair private airplane runway neighborhood in Florida, made famous by John Travolta’s residency there.
These days, residential builders are challenged to provide market-based amenities beyond the expected parks, playgrounds and pools. Recently, WHA has been involved in projects offering cooperative greenhouses, DIY bicycle shops and even craft beer brewing facilities. Another potential project intends to cater to Yoga enthusiasts.
Our latest custom home is located in Thermal Club, a development devoted to auto-racing in the toasty town of Thermal, California halfway between Coachella and the Salton Sea. Members choosing not to reside there can simply construct a garage to store their sports cars. Others may choose to build homes, either custom or from a collection of five pre-designed and approved models. An 18-foot high sound-wall separates the residences from three interconnecting mile-and-a-half Grand Prix style race tracks called the Desert Circuit, the North Palm Circuit and the South Palm Circuit. The site also includes a BMW Training Campus and, for young drivers, areas for go-carting, auto-cross, skid pad and remote control racing.
WHA is currently designing a contemporary 2,500-SF custom home above a 3,000-SF multi-car garage in Thermal Club. This will be one of the first custom homes in this unique development.
WHA is excited to be involved in Thermal Club and we look forward to other interest-based residential developments that are on the horizon.
